If your home solar system is monitored through the SunStrong Connect app, previously mySunPower, you may have received a message recently about an upcoming service change. Here’s what you need to know — and what steps you should take — to avoid losing system monitoring and potentially damaging your equipment.
Why Is This Happening?
In late 2024, SunStrong Management took over support for a large portion of SunPower’s monitoring infrastructure. Although your system may not be directly serviced by SunStrong, the company has been maintaining the digital platform that supports solar and battery performance monitoring across thousands of homes.
However, the cellular networks that once supported these systems are being phased out, and SunStrong has announced that free cellular connectivity will be discontinued starting July 8, 2025.
What Does This Mean for You?
According to SunStrong, if your solar monitoring system currently relies on a cellular connection, you must act before July 8 to maintain performance tracking and avoid permanent hardware damage. Without connectivity, your system may stop reporting production data, lose access to system alerts, and potentially suffer long-term issues due to outdated firmware.
How to Stay Connected: Your Options
Option 1: Switch to WiFi or Ethernet (Recommended)
-
No additional cost
-
Preserves system monitoring and prevents equipment failure
-
Avoids paying for a cellular subscription
-
Works with most home networks
Need help? Visit the System Monitoring section of the SunStrong Connect app for step-by-step setup instructions.
Option 2: Subscribe to Cellular Monitoring (If WiFi is not available)
SunStrong will offer paid subscriptions starting in late June through the Connect app. This is ideal for customers without access to WiFi or those who want cellular backup.
Annual Cellular Monitoring Rates:
-
$59.99/year for solar-only systems
-
$149.99/year for solar + battery systems
What Happens If You Do Nothing?
If your system relies on cellular and you don’t take action by July 8:
📉 You may lose production data
⚠️ System health alerts will stop
🔧 Technicians may be unable to diagnose issues
🛠️ Permanent hardware damage is possible, especially for systems with older firmware
Premium Monitoring Features Also Changing
To help support the cost of maintaining its app and platform, SunStrong is also launching a new premium subscription for advanced monitoring features.
Premium Features ($9.99/month or $99.99/year):
-
Access to historical production data
-
Panel-level monitoring
-
Usage and production analytics
-
Monthly solar performance reports
Free Basic Features (still included):
-
Real-time system monitoring
-
Device health alerts
-

Important: Even these basic features will only work if your system is connected via WiFi, Ethernet, or a paid cellular plan.
How to Know If You’re Affected
-
Open the SunStrong Connect app
-
Tap the profile icon and check your connection type:
-
If you see “Cellular” or “Unknown” → You need to act before July 8
-
If you see “WiFi,” “Ethernet,” or “PLC” (Power-Line Communication) → No changes needed
-
FAQs
Will the SunStrong web portal still work?
No. All monitoring is now handled through the mobile app, the desktop version is no longer available.
How do I get help if I can’t reconnect via WiFi?
If your installer is no longer in business or unavailable, look for local professionals experienced in solar system monitoring and WiFi configuration. If you are located in California’s Bay Area, submit your service request here.
Do I have to subscribe to the premium app?
No. Basic monitoring is still available for free — but only if your system stays connected.
