The Villages Golf & Country Club is a 55+ leisure living community situated in the foothills of San Jose. The Villages offers something for every one of its 4,000 residents including a championship golf course, club houses, restaurants, pools, tennis courts and leisure activities.

Their Challenge

The Villages is centrally managed with the community covering the costs of all shared amenities. Over the years their electricity bills had grown to become a large percentage of their operating budget and they wanted to reduce the hundreds of thousands of dollars spent each year.

How They Saved

Given that the community is dominated by residents with fixed incomes, the board wanted a no cost financing solution that lowered their costs. Solar Technologies handled every step in the process and helped The Villages finance the system with a 10-year lease that saved tens of thousands per year from the beginning. At the end of the lease, The Villages owns the system and starts saving hundreds of thousands per year. Over 25 years The Villages will save $5.7 million that will help lower monthly dues and fund improvements across the community. They are thrilled with their savings and sustainability leadership among senior communities in California.
