CPUC Decision Allows Tradable RECs

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) this week issued a decision that would allow the use of tradeable renewable energy credits (TRECs) in the state. The legislature had previously authorized the CPUC to allow the use of TRECS in 2006. In October, 2008, the CPUC issued its first proposed decision authorizing the use of TRECs. Since then the CPUC considered various proposed decisions that would have permitted the use of TRECs until adopting the final decision on March 11.

Iosil Secures US $13.5M for Polysilicon Production

Iosil Energy Corporation has secured US $13.5 million in equity financing. The investment will allow the company to its polysilicon production pilot facility in one of several locations under consideration. The full investment will be used by the company to build out a pilot manufacturing plant and prepare for commercial introduction.

Suntech To Power Taiwan's Largest Solar PV Plant

Suntech Power Holdings Co. Ltd. will supply solar panels for what will be the biggest solar power plant in Taiwan. Owned and operated by the Taiwan Power Company, and developed by Fortune Electric Co. Ltd., the new 4.7-megawatt (MW) solar plant in Young'an, Kaohsiung, Taiwan, will nearly double the island's current installed solar capacity of about 5 MW.

Siliken To Build 9.8-MW Solar Power Plant

Spanish renewable energy company, Siliken has entered into an agreement with Fotowatio Renewable Ventures to build a 9.8 megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic power plant in the Italian city of Fiumicino. When completed, it will be one of the largest PV installations in the region.

Agile Energy Secures Funding from Good Energies

Agile Energy Inc., a developer of utility-scale renewable power generating projects,has closed a Series A investment from Good Energies Inc. The undisclosed amount of financing will provide Agile Energy with both cash and credit support which will fund the company's growth and development activities.

Akeena To Provide Installation Services for Lowe's

Akeena Solar this week said that it will provide residential installation services for Lowe's customers in 21 California stores. The announcement comes just a few months after Andalay AC solar panels first hit the shelves as part of Lowe's Energy Center, making them the first grid-connected solar power systems to be sold by a major retailer.

In early February, President Obama did something that his predecessor George W. Bush was unable to do: he pushed the restart button on the U.S. nuclear power industry. Clean Energy 2010 Trending Up

Last year around this time, clean tech research and publishing firm Clean Edge predicted we'd be talking about flat or even downward clean energy revenue trends in 2009.
